One day when I was walking my dog near Manila South Cemetery, I asked God why He wanted me to start investing into coffee and possibly opening my own farm and he answered, “Drought. Fire”. I know that God is a merciful and patient God and I know that He doesn’t do anything on earth without revealing His secret to His servants and prophets [Amos 3:7]. I also know that in the forecast of troubling times, God can speak to His people and prepare for what could be coming and in response send relief, as it happened with the Prophet Agabus in Acts 11:27-28. 

 

In February 2021, John Kerry said,

 

"The scientists told us three years ago we had 12 years to avert the worst consequences of the climate crisis. We are now three years gone, so we have nine years left."

 

This was back in 2021 and many other world leaders have echoed this concern.  Since then record breaking droughts and fires are happening around the world at an increasing rate like we have never been seen before and it is becoming an issue for many different types of crops.  In 2024, Brazil and Vietnam, the two largest suppliers of coffee greens in the world, faced severe droughts causing a massive deficit in the world market.  

 

Unfortunately the infrastructure for coffee development in the Philippines is suffering due to lack of incentives and old processing methods,  but with your help we can invest and make that change starting here at 5FoldAve. We are not only looking to provide the world with a better bean, but are continually looking to help farmers and work with roasters to implement safe agricultural practices. 

 

WHY COFFEE?!

 

• Because of the droughts bean varieties like Arabica have been affected causing a rise in prices. International Roasters are looking for alternatives in bean varieties like Robusta and Liberica, which the Philippines can provide! These bean varieties are also more resilient to climate change, disease, and pests, making a great alternative. 

• The presence of coffee trees in reforestation projects helps restore degraded land and improve water cycles. The roots are good at binding the soil; enhancing the ability to retain moisture. You can actually grow crops around coffee trees to promote biodiversity.

• Used coffee grounds and husks can be repurposed as drought resistant mulch, reducing soil evaporation and improving water retention in farmlands. 

• You can even utilize used coffee grounds to create insect repellent candles.

 

There is a lot we are still learning about the uses of coffee to combat drought, but I believe God has put it in my heart to help the world for what we could be facing in a few years. With your help we could start investing in coffee crop like never before and provide the world with a better bean.
